I’ve used Hero Forge a lot since their price of STLs is relatively cheap. I have a whole shadow elf pirate crew designed via hero forge and printed on my filament printer.

Play 40k not AOS but want the box. Hard to say no to a launch box, as such great deal. But paid 200usd for Dominion, then jaw dropped when saw stacks of it at local stores for 95. Dominion is going for 130 on amazon right now. I guess a lot didn't like the "LOTR" orks. I personally like them. Gonna hold off and see if can get a deal. If I miss out, oh well. Skaven are pretty cool.

for years all of the clickbait wargaming channels said this game would kill off and or overtake warhammer. all i can say to that is, LOL.

With X-Wing, I feel the Version 1 - to Version 2 reset was a setback to a degree. I expanded my fleet buying out others who were selling up. The V2 - 2.5 coupled with Covid killed it for me and many mates. The inability to obtain ships in Australia for a long time coupled with not being able to play was just too much. 2.5 Banned pilots and ships, which affected every list I flew. On another note, the Victory Star Destroyer was present (and pictured) in the X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter Video game back in the late 90s. You were out by about 20 years.

For those saying the game died when 2.0 rolled out, I hear the frustration and I get it. New editions always take a toll. But the game did need some major updates and it got it. With that said, the game was still very healthy. If you want proof Id point you to the last huge 2.0 tournament which was the European Open Qualifier which took place in February of 2020. It had approximately 320 players in it. Thats a massive turnout for a miniature game. Then Covid hit. As we all started coming back to shops AMG changed the rules from 2.0 to 2.5. Thats when the death spiral started. Ever since then the numbers have been dropping. 2.5 killed X-Wing, not the 2nd edition.

I've never understood the complaints about the conversion price from 1.0 to 2.0. Compared to other miniature games I've played, the cost to convert was very acceptable in comparison. But, some folks will never support having to purchase stuff for a new addition, and I do get that. It didn't help that the production of the conversion kits was hit and miss. What killed the game around me was 2.5. Sure, there was a drop of players after 1.0 but there were other factors in play there too. Some left for Legion since it came out around that time too. All in all, most people seemed to stick around. As frustrating as an edition update is, 2.0 was mostly an improvement across the board. This seem to he mostly agreed upon even if it was frustrating. 2.5 however was not that. 2.5 launched right after communties were coming back from Covid and it neutered the fanbase. Within 6 months, almost all players I knew had dropped X-Wing for other games because they disliked 2.5 that much. 2.5 was a complete change to the game. AMG seemed to have some good ideas but terrible execution. Their solutions only caused worse problems. Then, their relucatance to do anything but Standard Loadouts didn't help either. AMG wanted to convert X-Wing to something that resembled MCP more, but in doing so, they lost what X-Wing actually was. When their ideas failed, they decided it was better to pull the plug than try to fix it. So of the 3 games they were handed, they've killed 2 of them. Armada they never gave a chance. X-Wing they actively hurt (unintentionally) to the point they killed it too.

Snap ….. edition 2 killed it for me too …… literally overnight I was out ….. very sad to see it go and have some very fond memories of playing games.

Somehow I feel that more and more games that have a specific IP will get problem. Because price is an issue for more and more people. I think that in the end, Games Workshop who own their own established IP will get some problem. But they have the ability to play around. However, as they have established more and more lore, it is clear that some fans get very upset as soon as they tweak something in what is considered "established" lore. Due to price increases I have moved over to the smaller scene of miniature agnostic games, where I can get cheaper rules but can use my old minis. And I look for the author of the rules in case they come up with something new. And I can buy whatever minis I want.

Ive been wargaming since 1981 so I've seen quite a bit over the years and whilst the game was great, when the FAQ got longer than the rules that wasn't good. The new fighters were barely recognisable as Star Wars ships. They may have appeared in a comic or cartoon once but unless you were heavily into SW you had no idea what they were as they merrily blew away your TIE fighters or X Wings. Some games using the newer stuff didn't look like Star Wars at all. The Community didn't help itself. I left the FFG forum years back. Ive better things to do than deal with ill mannered kids 35 years my junior. Honestly they wouldn't dare be as rude face to face. Not everyone was like that of course, you can't tar everyone with the same brush, but I'm not wasting my time arguing with some 19 year old Yank getting angry and rude in his mother's basement. Ive got plenty of historical stuff to be getting on with. Overall it was a great game but all good things come to an end

I think 2nd edition killed it for me. Its interesting that Wings of Glory, a WW1 aircraft game has a limited pool, and is still going strong...

fortunately no one needs to stop to play these. After about 20 years I still enjoy a game of FASAs brilliant Crimson Skies (talking about great dogfight-games) - basically a more detailed/complicated variant of X-Wing (more movement options/dangerous manouvers, more detailed damage-system, more pilot- and plane-stats to play around with).

You missed quite a bit and completely misrepresented what happened: X-Wing 2nd edition was a rushed product to prop up FFG’s value prior to being sold off. They weren’t given a lot of time and they were banking on the converter sets erupting their profits. Then, Asmodee, the owner of FFG, moved all miniatures production to Atomic mass Games (AMG). AMG had ZERO experience with pre-made, pre-painted miniatures and was a small studio. They never designed a new unique model in the 4 years they had the IP for either Armada or X-Wing. Armada lived 4 years without a single new release, not for lack of interest (a lucrehulk droid control ship would’ve sold bank). They released a 1.5 edition with some rebalances but then AMG took control and never bothered doing anything but releasing print and play .pdfs for the stuff FFG already designed. Declining sales were only a problem because there was no new product. Armada was maybe 2-3 waves from being a complete game, yet they still botched it. X-Wing had tons of design space to move into with the new tv shows and cartoons, but it came down to the fact AMG never bothered to learn the production process for pre-made models.

What killed Armada was that it was 2x to 3x more expensive than X-Wing. So you felt like an idiot for paying 4x the price of a Millennium Falcon for a single Star Destroyer. That meant fewer people able to afford it, and fewer people around to actually PLAY it. No one at my FLGS played Armada. And I used to go to the game nights hosted at REAPER'S store attached to their factory here in TX. NO ONE played Armada. They had xwing nights even after 2e. No one was playing armada.

13:53 the baneblade in the back is the original forge world one you're referring too. The easiest way too tell a plastic from a resin baneblade is the size of the rear fuel drums and the non-modular sponsons. 14:05 Bit confusing but I believe this is one of the interim shadowswords as its built off a plastic baneblade chassis. IIRC they did keep selling these resin ones for quite a while after the plastic shadowsword released 14:15 The original Baneblade kit only built the baneblade and hellhammer variants. This was followed up later by a separate kit that built all the shadowsword casemate variants. It was many years later that a '1 box builds all' kit was released. I'm not sure if this new kit used new sprues or they just chucked everything in one box, but i think it might have been the former. Still i think everything else is correct, cool to learn about the history of the glaive name. Love your final paintjob!

What they should have done is push to get a basic game into Walmart that would get more people into buying the game. Then work it so you would have Armada working with X-Wing so a commander would show up with others and when a fighter battle started they would break off to play that while the commanders handle the capital ships.

I played Armada 2 times... As a 40K diehard it played very like Battlefleet Gothic (second fav game) and I was nearly convinced to collect but the critical mass had not really been reached ( SE QLD) so I let it go....

You could definitely buy the skaventide box for bits to kitbash a Skaven genestealer cult proxy. The horned rat is cooler than the four armed emperor anyways.

A few minutes into your video and I'm immediately put off by how weird it is that you kept describing these games in the past tense, as though they have vanished from the face of the Earth. 1. The games still exist and people can still play them. 2. There is still plenty of stock in the stores currently, so new people can even still come into the game. Sure, no new content will be produce, but THEY CAN STILL BE PLAYED.
